Bio:

Ruth Ann McKinney, the author, is a Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Writing and Learning Resources Center at the University of North Carolina Law School. Professor McKinney clerked for the Honorable Harry C. Martin at the North Carolina Supreme Court and was an associate in the litigation division of Maxwell & Hutson in Durham, North Carolina, following her clerkship. In addition to directing the first-year Writing Program, Professor McKinney directs UNC Law's Academic Support Programs and maintains research interests in legal pedagogy, particularly concerning ways students can maximize achievement in legal education. Her other publications include Reading Like a Lawyer which helps beginning and more advanced students explore efficient ways to read cases and statutes both in law school casebooks and in unedited form.
